What is Flesh? And did Snowball have to remind me it is SO real?

It occurred to me that I throw around the word "flesh" as though it is used commonly throughout society. It is. Sort of. In Midtown Church world. It's one of those things we talked about during the famous "three day" conference where Grace Ministries International teaches you about the "Exchanged Life". And also one of those things that our teachers often refer to in the weekly messages. Ok, so without all the dumb overquoted words, what am I saying?

Flesh is just our self life, or sinful nature, or human nature apart from God. In other words, the YOU you would be if you never, ever believed in God for even an instant. But, once you've asked Christ into your heart, well, your desires change. It's not an obligation. It's a transformation. That's what those Baptist Super Christians mean by saying they're (ok, we're) saved or born again. All we mean is that :

2 Corinthians 5:17 (New International Version)
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Meaning you ask Christ into your heart, and He becomes part of you. Ever heard of the Holy Spirit? Oh! It's all coming together. Christ now resides (lives) IN you!

Ok. My weekend flew by. It was a pretty decent one, actually, but I'm exhausted!
Weekend Updates:
Friday-
Drove to Newnan to go to the only Red Robin in Georgia for dinner.
Saturday- Got up early, went to work at SSA and worked almost three hours. That'll be time off later. Then we rented a Tiller from Home Depot. And I tilled my future flower beds. And ignored my asthma attacks and aching muscles. And got attacked TWICE by Snowball- a really, really mean white Maltese. He apparently didn't like me. And I definitely don't like him. He drew blood in several places on my right hand and left ankle, caused bruises everywhere he bit me, and got hold of my pant leg and would let go- I fell down trying to get away! (He was tied up.) I also trimmed all of our bushes and put up borders for the future flower beds. We got some great soil conditioners/manure/ etc added into the Georgia Red Clay, so hopefully that will be helpful later on. When I came inside, I finally used my inhaler, but I had sort of waited too long. I could breath again, but my lungs were full of gunk and it really hurt to cough. My bad. Ben and I went to see the movie Nanny McPhee which was just great, but Ben slept through a lot of it. Took two 5 mg Ambien and three ibiprofeun so I could sleep well. And I definitely slept well.

Today I got some Robutussin expectorant stuff, and it's helping. And my coughing actually (sorry this is gross) coughs something up now, so I figure I'll be fine. Church was great. I like Ash's messages. Then a group of us made a yummy lunch at Bevin and Zellyns and had a Fabulous lunch. (Bevin word!) Then Ben and I met my parents for dinner and that was great.

Oh, and just for the record, in addition to the gardening project, I am also excited about an upcoming painting project. Our living room came this strange purplish pinkish color that we don't like, so I've decided on the colors I'm going to use to paint it in a few weeks. (Thanks for your help, Aimee!) We've been here one year, so it's about time. The living room will be an olive green type color called "Egyptian Nile". I had painted my Maryland living room this color and was very sad when I had to sell it because it had barely been a year since I'd painted it and I had LOVED it. Then the dining room and kitchen will be a coordinating blue color that works beautifully with our everyday plates. It is called "Lost Atlantis". Because I tend to procrastinate, my hope is to have the painting done before the April Church Social at our house. Deadlines and visitors are excellent motivators for me.... poor Ben. (-;

I should have gone to bed an hour ago, but wanted to write about the Flesh stuff. So, there you have it...

Just so everyone doesn't get the worng idea. I did help my wife. My wife insisted that gardening was her project and would hardly let me touch the tiller.

Also, regarding the whole "Flesh" thing, Romans 7:14 starts a great description of life in the flesh. If you have the NIV it translates it as "sinful nature" but a much more accurate word is simply "flesh"

Ah, the flesh. It's icky. It's that part of you always trying to control your life so you and everyone around you will be "okay" and makes you act in ways you hate yourself for. (For me, I get bossy/bitchy.)
How much more peaceful it is to live from the new heart God has placed in you and to trust him to make everything okay.
If you're quiet and listen for it, you cans discern the difference.
